Manitoba Child Murder Case

If you haven't heard of this case, I'll give you a little synopsis:

Karl McKay and Samantha Kematch brutally abused and ended up killing their little 5 year old girl. Some of the abuse, as testified by her siblings, included: choking, being shot with a BB gun, forced to eat her own vomit and other terrible acts by two disgusting excuses for human beings.

A few things have brought me to blog about it:

1) These two psychological rejects decided that their ruling of guilty of first-degree murder was unjust. They obviously don't fully understand that they tortured and killed their child, and that justice was definitely served.

2) The child protection agency in Manitoba managed to get this child returned to these two sadists, after being removed from their home previously.

When are we going to begin to hold these child protection agencies for negligence? What about the cases where the CPS takes children away from their parents based on flimsy evidence feeding a government run witch hunt?

Let me point out that when police officers are investigated for misappropriation of their powers, people get on the bandwagon immediately screaming for blood and justice to be served. The reasoning is always that police officers are granted more power and responsibility than the average citizen, and that they have a tremendous amount of responsibility to ensure that they use these power appropriately.

When the hell are we going to say that social workers, prosecutors, child protection agencies and the like are to be held to the same level of responsibility? When it comes to children, families and domestic crimes (of all sorts), these people possess a tremendous amount of power to not only influence the courts but also to exercise power rivaled only by our Revenue Agency in terms of life-changing familial acts.

This is bullshit, and not hard to see through. A lot of people failed this little girl, and only two of them have been addressed (not to mention I will be completely surprised if the first-degree murder charge sticks, I possess no naivete when it comes to our screwed up justice system). Their inquiry I am sure will find that the system failed them, they'll release a pretty news release saying we screwed up and "we'll review our policies" and perhaps "our case workers have been educated on these types of scenarios".

However, the people who were responsible for returning this poor innocent child to Manitoba home-equivalent of Abu Gharib will face no justice.
